INSET: Introduction to Database Filmmaking
Mon 29 October 2007, 10am – 4pm
This all-day workshop for teachers introduces database narratives
for use in the classroom. Interactive database-driven films are a
new form of moving-image storytelling, combining digital video with
software programming. This one-day workshop will introduce teachers
to free public-domain software and simple programming techniques
that can be delivered from secondary level through to higher
education.
Creative use of video along with ICT is particularly suited to
cross-curricular activity, and this workshop is ideal for teachers
wishing to develop current media production projects and skills.
This course will provide a solid foundation in using new media as
an educational tool and give educators practical experience in
using new media for AS / A2 and foundation level Art & Design
and Media courses. Led by Dave Griffiths, artist and lecturer at
Blackburn University.
Previous experience of programming or databases is not necessary,
but basic knowledge of digital video editing, and formats such as
QuickTime, would be useful. Teachers will be asked to bring some
source video material to transform into a database film - details
provided on application. £70 per teacher, refreshments

Projector Digital once again unites Cornerhouse Education’s
artists/filmmakers with teachers of all disciplines to enhance and
promote the use of digital technology across the curriculum. Our
philosophy is for you to actively learn with our experienced
artists in small groups in a relaxed environment, not to fall
asleep in front of a PowerPoint presentation! Please note that
courses are Apple Mac based (though most software can be used on
PCs too) and are aimed at secondary and FE level.
