West Cheshire on Film screening
The North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University is pleased to announce West Cheshire on Film, a part of its programme to make this fascinating collection available to the public of the Northwest region.
Supported by Northwest Vision and Media and in collaboration with Vue Cinemas, the NWFA will present a public screening of films from its collection at the Vue Cinema at Cheshire Oaks.
The screening will take place on Thursday 20th September 2007 at 7.30pm.
The films to be shown will feature life in and around the
Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston areas over the past 100 years.
In this wonderful series of films you can relive the Ladies walking
day in Neston from 1910 and watch Chester’s last trams in
1929. Take a tour round the City’s walls and Rows in a
1930’s cinema travel film and see Britain’s wartime
hero ‘Monty’ as he visits the Port Sunlight soap works
in 1950.
The area’s industries are featured in a look at the work of
the Men of the Mersey unloading ships at Bromborough and
the collection of bins in Ellesmere Port. You can spend a day at
the races and the zoo in the company of three glamorous young
‘gals’ in Lovely Weekend, the only colour film
made for cinema release by the famous Mancunian Studios in 1956 and
visit the Boat Museum in 1979 with the Queen and Prince Philip.
The Archive’s Service Manager Marion Hewitt said
“This is a great opportunity for the people of the area to
enjoy an evening with a difference, and take a look back at life in
their towns in the past century”.
Northwest Vision and Media’s Alice Morrison said "The North
West Film Archive is one of our region's real gems and Northwest
Vision and Media are proud to support West Cheshire on
Film, enabling local people to access a piece of their
region's past."
The evening’s show will be presented by the Archive’s Collections Assistant Geoff Senior, who can be contacted on 0161 247 3097 for further information, interview, and footage.
Tickets are £3.00 and can be obtained in advance from the box office or by calling 08712 240240. The venue seats 245. Book early to avoid disappointment!
