The Streets Visit Cumbria
The Streets Visit Cumbria
Cumbria is a veritable haven for celebrities these days. Hollywood A-lister Renee Zelwegger recently filmed Miss Potter in Cumbria and the latest visitor was The Streets' Mike Skinner. The video for The Streets forthcoming single, Never Went to Church, was filmed at Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and the very snowy Tarn Hows.
The single is a tribute to Mike Skinner's recently deceased Father and word has it that Mike used to holiday with his Dad in Cumbria, hence his decision to set the video there.
The snow was a welcome artistic surprise, however it didn't make for an easy shoot. Rikke Dakin, coordinated the shoot for North West Vision's Cumbria Film Office.
"My initial conversation with Rob, the producer, ended with him
saying,
'...We just want to see Mike Skinner looking lost in beautiful
surroundings'.
It was agreed that the director would come up to Cumbria recce
locations at Brantwood, Tarn Hows, Coniston, Grizdale Forest,
Windermere, Hawkshead and the Lakeside & Haverthwaite
Railway.
It snowed heavily prior to their visit, however by the time they arrived it had all but disappeared. We had a snow free day with the crew marvelling at the magnificence of the landscape.
We decided to base ourselves in the Coniston area for the shoot. It snowed rather more heavily over the following weekend and into Monday, so much so that roads across Cumbria were closed and, to my horror, the area around Coniston was virtually impassable.
Frantic telephone calls between Cumbria and London ensued.
The crew were a little wary of incorporating the snow into the video at first, but it was hardly something we could avoid! I think what swayed them was the sheer tranquil beauty of Tarn Hows under two feet of snow!
We decided to go ahead with the shoot whatever the weather would throw at us. It was hard work and we had more than a few problems getting the crew, two mini buses and three vans up to Tarn Hows.
It was generally agreed however that it was the best couple of days filming we had all done in a while. Not because of the challenge of getting the equipment to obscure places three feet deep in snow, but because once we got there we were confronted with the awesome beauty that is The Lake District and for a little while it was all ours."
The single, Never Went to Church, will be released on Monday 5th June.
