The Outsiders
MERSEYSIDE DOUBLES AS MAJOR EUROPEAN LOCATIONS FOR ‘THE OUTSIDERS’
Liverpool’s ability and ease to transform itself into a diverse array of filming locations will be highlighted on Tuesday 2nd October when new prime time drama ‘The Outsiders’ premieres on ITV 1.
The one-off drama (made by Liverpool based Campus Manor – formerly Mersey TV) was assisted by Liverpool City Council’s Film Office (managed by North West Vision) and used the city as a double for glamorous locations including Malta, Barcelona, Paris and Rome.
‘The Outsiders’ follows infamous code cracker Nathan Hyde (Eastenders alumnus Nigel Harman) as he accepts one last mission after spending years under an assumed identity. Promising an epic story with non-stop action, Liverpool will proudly display some of it’s finest assets including the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Thurstaston Beach in the Wirral, St Georges Hall, The Foresight Centre and Victoria Tower as well as many other of the regions gems.
The Liverpool Film Office (the UK’s first film office) recently reported an 80% increase in the number of filming days in the city (Jan to Aug 06) and with six productions currently shooting in the city, that figure looks set to continue rising.
Alice Morrison, Chief Executive at North West Vision said:
“Filming days recorded for the whole of 2005 were outstanding
so to discover that they have increased is tremendous news. Our
film offices provide a free one stop shop service and work hard to
attract productions and facilitate their production needs. This is
a great reflection of their commitment and of the excellent
relationships that they are building with the industry.”
Lynn Saunders, Head of the Liverpool Film Office said:
“The filming increase is excellent news and productions such
as ‘The Outsiders’ take full advantage of the beautiful
scenery we have here. The remainder of 2006 is looking to be
equally successful and I look forward to comparing the end of year
figures.”
Filming has also been booming across the other four areas of the
Northwest region. In Manchester and Greater Manchester, a rise of
21% (Jan to Aug 06) has been recorded. The Cheshire and Warrington
Office highlighted that the same period has already exceeded
filming for the whole of 2005 and the Lancashire Film Office has
recorded an increase of 18%.
Productions recently filming on location in the Northwest include,
Shameless, Life on Mars, Grow Your own (Frank Cottrell Boyce
feature film), Gold Plated, Mobile (new ITV drama).
‘The Outsiders’ broadcasts at 9pm, Tuesday 2nd
October on ITV 1
