Super Lamb Banana in Movie Bid

LIVERPOOL’S Super Lamb Banana is set to wow filmmakers in Los Angeles from 10th to 12th April. The statue will be taking centre stage at the AFCI Locations Expo, the trade show held to encourage American studio bosses to come to the UK to make movies.

Kevin Bell, Locations Co-ordinator from the Liverpool Film Office, will be representing Regional Screen Agency Northwest Vision and Media and Liverpool City Council, who, as part of the UK attendance organised by the UK Film Council, are hoping to make a big impression on the American market.

Not only will Kevin be selling the benefits of filming in the Northwest, he’ll be making the most of his secret weapon - the Super Lamb Banana.

“The Super Lamb Banana will no doubt make a big impression!” says Kevin, who believes the unusual artwork will attract interest from the thousands of visitors to the American exhibition.

“The AFCI Locations Expo is a trade show which sells locations to the rest of the world. It’s a wonderful showcase to promote our region’s fabulous locations, and a great way of introducing the international market to the flavour of Liverpool.”

“Hopefully, the Super Lamb Banana will give a glimpse of what awaits producers if they decide to invest in the city by coming here to make films and TV,” says Kevin.

Alice Morrison, Chief Executive of Northwest Vision and Media, the agency that works on behalf of the film, TV, radio, digital and games industries in the region added, “This is the first time that Northwest Vision and Media has been invited to attend the LA event with the UK Film Council. We’re delighted to be there as we’re determined to attract as much film production to the Northwest as we can. The region has so much to offer, raising the profile and attracting investment from the US market is a great opportunity for us.”

The original Super Lamb Banana, the work of Japanese-based artist, Taro Chiezo, draws on Liverpool docks’ rich history in the trade of lambs and the import of bananas. It stands an impressive seventeen feet tall and is made of concrete and steel. The iconic sculpture is the inspiration for the Go Super Lamb Bananas parade, a 10 week, public art parade being held in Liverpool from June 16 -August 25, commissioned by Liverpool Culture Company for the European Capital of Culture celebrations. The statue Kevin will be taking to LA, however, is on a much smaller scale - although he’s hoping it will cause a similar stir to the original.
