North West Vision Welcomes BBC Announcement
North West Vision has welcomed the announcement made by the BBC governors to house the BBC's Greater Manchester media centre in Salford Quays.
Manchester and Salford City Councils both submitted bids for the new site and Salford's MediaCity:UK bid was chosen as the site for the Corporation's relocation to Greater Manchester.
The film and TV agency stated that it felt today's decision to develop the new site in Salford would now, 'allow plans to significantly progress' with regards to the relocation of five key departments from London to Manchester.
Steve Morrison, Chair of North West Vision said:
"Today's announcement by the BBC is an important milestone with regards to continuing to grow and sustain the media industry in the region. We send our congratulations to Salford City Council and will continue to work with both Salford and Manchester City Councils, the NWDA and other regional and national partners, to ensure that we all play an integral role in the development of the new site".
North West Vision has played a key role in the economic growth of the media industry in the Northwest. Over the last year North West Vision's Greater Manchester Film Office has alone generated approximately £30 million of inward investment through its free film liaison service.
The agency's Regional Attraction Fund (an annual £1million fund managed by North West Vision and funded by the North West Regional Development Agency) in 2005 made investment awards to twenty-four indigenous companies and four incoming companies. The investments made from the fund have made an invaluable contribution in doubling the independent production sector in the Northwest over the past eighteen months.
