FILMING IN THE NORTHWEST IS JUST A PHONE CALL AWAY

VIEWERS will be twitching everytime they hear a ringtone after watching ITV’s new three-part conspiracy thriller Mobile, filmed across the Northwest with assistance from North West Vision’s regional film offices.

The drama written by John Fay (Robin Hood, Coronation Street and Clocking Off), centres around a series of mobile-phone related murders, somehow tied in with Iraq War and focusing each week on the viewpoint of a different character; the engineer, the soldier and the boss.

Greater Manchester Film Officer Susan Williams explains: “North West Vision worked to organise some of the road closures on Mobile which were required for some of its major scenes. At one point in Manchester, we had a stunt with a sniper on the roof of a building in Deansgate. It was crucial to set this up correctly so that members of the public didn’t become unnecessarily alarmed!”

Kevin Bell, Liverpool’s Film Liaison Officer adds: “Mobile filmed around Merseyside on a few occasions including a police chase scene across Strand Road, which is probably Liverpool City Centre’s busiest road.

“With fantastic support from Merseyside Police and Liverpool County Council’s Traffic Management we were able to shoot the scene at 7am on a Saturday morning.

“Filming also took place on Ainsdale Beach where a temporary set was built to double up as an Iraqi training camp.”

Viewers from the Northwest will no doubt recognise many of the locations used as backdrops for the drama which also included a days filming at the Weeton Army Barracks in the Fylde (Lancashire), facilitated by Lancashire Film Officer Lynda Banister.

Speaking on behalf of North West Vision’s five regional film offices Lynda says: “Its fantastic to be in a position to assist with projects such as Mobile and we’re happy to help in any way possible with production enquiries, no matter how big or small.”

Mobile will broadcast Monday 19th March, Monday 26th March and Monday 2nd April on ITV1.
