Liverpool Filmmakers Enjoy Big Screen Debut

FILMMAKERS from across Liverpool filled the cinema at FACT to watch a big screen debut of their work, after winning funding from regional screen agency, Northwest Vision and Media.

John Maxwell, producer of Northern Cowboys, and The Meeting director Wesley Storey, both from Liverpool, joined with their fellow filmmakers from across the Northwest, and industry executives to watch the series of 11 short films, all fully-funded by Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the Northwest’s TV, film, radio and digital content industries.

The Digital Shorts scheme is part of a national, UK Film Council initiative to unearth budding feature filmmakers.

“Short films are critical in identifying new and developing writers, directors and producers,” explains Alice Morrison, Chief Executive for Vision and Media. “This initiative gives filmmakers real life experience of the industry, and in many cases helps them to go on to even bigger and better projects.

“Indeed, one of our Digital Shorts directors, Lawrence Gough, has just finished production on his first feature film,” adds Alice.
