St. Helens' King of comedy champions Northwest film and TV
COMEDY hero, Johnny Vegas, is among a host of Northwest film and TV personalities currently singling out the region for praise.
The Warrington-born comedienne recently took part in a promotional DVD, being produced by North West Vision, the strategic film, TV and digital media development agency for the Northwest.
The screen agency’s inward investment marketing campaign aims to spread the word about the exceptional crew, facilities and locations on offer across the region. And Johnny was determined to play his part.
“Talent wise, I think the region is pretty much superb compared to everywhere else,” he said. “There’s a better knowledge and more open-mindedness here. I’m always grateful to work with different talent and we have the best technical and support crew available.”
A short clip of the DVD, featuring Johnny’s interview, will shortly be available on YouTube, with the final film being distributed to national and international production companies. North West Vision also plans to take the DVD to this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May.
Filming in the Castlefield area of Manchester, the DVD’s producer Cath Marsden, of MMA, caught up with Johhny Vegas to ask him about his experience of living and working in the region, and why he’s chosen to keep a firm base within the area.
“Creatively, it’s a proper hotbed for talent. There’s more of a community feel up here and you have to be genuinely individual to stand out,” said Johnny.
Asked for a list of five great things in the Northwest, Johnny adds: “St. Helen’s Rugby Club, lovely pies, Manchester and Liverpool, the fact that St. Helens is in between Manchester and Liverpool and the cultural diversity that is evident across the region.”
