Final Cut Pro Training

THESE two day workshops with an accredited Apple trainer are an absolute must for anyone interested in developing their editing skills. Workshops available for total beginners and intermediate level users of Final Cut Pro at reduced rates.

Please note eligibility criteria apply. You must be working freelance or for an SME in the film or media industries and live in the North West but NOT Merseyside. This is due to funding restrictions.

Introduction to Final Cut Pro
Dates: Thu 14th/ Fri 15th June 2007

Software: Final Cut Pro 5
Reduced Cost: £120 per trainee (reduced from £400) (includes VAT, course materials, lunch and refreshments)

A two-day introductory course aimed at anyone interested in starting to edit on Final Cut Pro. Trainees will ideally have a practical knowledge of the video production process, an understanding of editing and have experience of using Apple Mac computers running OSX.

The course mixes tutorial sessions with practical exercises. The aim of the course is to encourage students to edit independently on the Final Cut Pro system.

Day One – Working with the Final Cut Pro interface. Capturing footage. Importing files. Marking In and Out points. Insert and Overwrite editing. Trimming edits.

Day Two – Working with clips on the timeline. Basic audio adjustment. Basic video effects. Creating titles. Outputting sequences.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is for beginners to editing and not the most suitable course for experienced editors on other packages such as Avid.

Intermediate Final Cut Pro

A two-day intermediate course aimed at editors who have already started working on Final Cut Pro and understand the basics. Students should have completed a formal introductory Final Cut Pro course, or have gained equivalent experience elsewhere, and have been editing on the system for a minimum of six months.

The course mixes tutorial sessions, skill-sharing discussions and practical exercises. The aim of the course is to consolidate editors’ knowledge of Final Cut Pro, introduce them to new intermediate techniques and improve their speed and effectiveness on the system.

Day One – Consolidating Knowledge. Topics include project organisation and settings, browser and bins, capturing, editing, working on the timeline, toolbar, trimming, audio editing and mixing, applying and customizing effects, using the motion tab and manipulating key frames.

Day Two – Intermediate Techniques. Topics include multi-cam editing, basic colour correction, import and export, shortcuts and media management.
