Film Focus Day

North West Vision Film Focus Day

Thursday October 12th 2006. 9.30am – 18.30pm
FACT, Wood Street, Liverpool, L1 4DQ.

This October, North West Vision, the Film, TV and Digital Media agency for the Northwest, is organising a conference to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by the region’s feature film producers. Featuring panellists from key areas of the business, the day will explore a range of topics including:

· ‘Breaking Through is Hard To Do’ - A detailed look at the experiences of filmmakers from the Northwest who have already made the foray into features. Panellists include Carl Hunter (‘Allotment’), Juliet Mckeown (’Frozen’) and John Maxwell (‘Damascus’). Chaired by Roger Shannon.

· ‘Secret of my Success’ – What do audiences really want to see on the big screen? What really sells and how can producers / directors ensure that they are providing this? Presented by Steve Perrin (Deputy Head of Distribution, UK Film Council).

· ‘Defying Gravity’ – Feature film production in the North West has been the subject of an in-depth report, commissioned from producer Derek Murray by North West Vision. Derek will present his findings followed by a Q&A session with a panel including Chris Moll (NWV Head Of Funds) and Sol Papadopoulos (Hurricane Films).

· ‘Twister!’ – Producers Martin Pope and Michael Rose from Magic Light Pictures reflect on filming the comedy feature ‘Sparkle’ in Liverpool earlier this year with a cast including Stockard Channing, Bob Hoskins and local rising star Shaun Evans. They will provide an eye-opening account of the highs and lows of producing a low-budget film on which the financiers and executive producers almost outnumbered the cast!

· ‘The Colour of Money’ – Panellists from Film Four, BBC and the UKFC explain exactly what they are looking for in terms of feature film making in the UK and how they are engaging more actively with the talent in the regions.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided at this fantastic opportunity for interaction, discussion and networking.
