Change Your Deja View

DID you know that Muhammed is the second most popular name for baby boys in Britain? Or that by 2011 we’ll have 4.6 million people aged over 75? Britain is certainly changing – and so too are audience tastes when it comes to enjoying TV.

That’s why an exciting, free event has been organized by the region’s screen agency, Northwest Vision and Media, in conjunction with the Royal Television Society and Cultural Diversity Network North. Designed to help producers and TV-makers understand what audiences desire, Change Your Deja View will also explain what commissioners are after.

“We’ve called the event Change Your Deja View because that’s exactly what programme-makers need to do if they hope to make commercially successful projects,” explains Claire Hoang, Diversity Officer for Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the TV, film, radio and digital content industries in the Northwest.

“In preparing for this event we un-earthed some fascinating facts. For example, we discovered that by 2010, single person households will account for 40% of the housing market. And In 2007, Indian tourist spend overtook Japanese tourist spend in London.

“These are interesting statistics on their own, but when you look at these figures in relation to audience trends for TV and interactive, they take on a whole new meaning,” says Claire.

“Britain is changing, and this free event is a brilliant way to find out how those changes affect your future aspirations.”

The evening event, which will be held on November 27 at Manchester’s Palace Hotel, from 6.30pm, will be hosted by Hardeep Singh Kohli, joined by other industry professionals.

“This event will really appeal to producers or companies who are interested in finding out what new audiences want, and who want to know how diversity can improve your business. We’ll also be able to discuss what broadcasters think about new audiences,” explains Claire.

“It’s designed to be a fun and informal evening, designed to make you think about changing Britain and how you and your company can benefit from knowing what they want. “
