Casualty 1906

Casualty 1906

Filmed in Liverpool with support from North West Vision's Liverpool Film Office, Casualty 1906 is an innovative hospital drama that plunges the viewer into the Receiving Room (today's A&E) of a 1906 hospital. The drama is shot with the pace and action of its modern day counterpart and namesake, Casualty.

The drama has been adapted from actual 1906 records, case notes and ward reports from the Royal London Hospital Archives. Collated by researchers at Stone City films, this material provided the characters and the circumstances that occur during the hour long episode. Eveything in Casualty 1906 really happened, staff names are all real and only the names of the patients have been changed.

Filming Location
" There's a lot of filming going on in Liverpool now, thanks to its wonderfully preserved Victorian buildings. I love the idea of bringing one of them back to life. It's going to be very atmospheric." Bryn Higgins, Director, Casualty 1906

The chosen location for the shoot was the former Liverpool Infirmary, an old Victorian building that is currently owned by Liverpool University. The hospital opened in 1989 and closed in 1978 before it was taken over by the university in 1994.

One wing of the hospital has been refurbished into a state of the art communications centre, but the remaining two wings have been left untouched, retaining much of their original character - which is why they were so perfect for this particular drama.

The location is registered as a filming location on North West Vision's locations database.
